Following acclaimed runs at Central Virginia Fringe, KC Fringe, and Minnesota Fringe, Director’s Cut is now available for bookings!
This 60-minute performance offers an unforgettable experience that’s part improv, part live theatrical conjuring. Created by Andrew Roblyer, founder of Deconstructing Directing, Director’s Cut pulls back the curtain on how theatre is made, revealing not only the choices directors make, but how those choices shape what we see and feel onstage. With a rotating cast of local performers and the audience helping guide the action, every show is a once-in-a-lifetime event.
Why You Should Bring Directors Cut to YOUR School, University, or Community Theatre
It’s more than a performance: Deconstructing Directing's goal is nothing short than transformation of the entire theatrical field.
Audience-powered storytelling: Viewers help shape the performance in real time.
A dynamic ensemble: Blending emerging and veteran performers who build the scene before your eyes.
Creative transparency: A rare peek into the how of theatre, not just the what.
I like industrial tours, for instance visiting a brewery to see how the magic is made. This was an industrial tour of directing a play…It was fascinating to me how the director drew out actions or phrasing from the actors.

Did we mention that Director’s Cut has basically NO tech or support needs?? It just needs:
A basic lighting wash OR universal room lighting (that’s right, it can be performed in any room with enough space, theater not required)
2-3 folding chairs
1 small folding table
Access to power upstage for our countdown clock
2-3 local actors for each show

“I am not in the theatre professions; so I was fascinated to watch the director and two actors show us how they work together to make words from a text (a 500+ year-old text, for our show!) become compelling scenes that speak to events, feelings, motivations, behaviors that are timeless. It really was a step-by-step process that brought words to life, relevant and compelling life!”
— Donna K, MN Fringe Patron
”Director’s Cut is an illuminating and entertaining peek into the role of the director. It was fascinating to see the scene come to life from the collaboration between the director and the actors. This is a really inspiring show for anyone interested in theater!” —David, KC Fringe Patron
